This is a Cumulonimbus cloud and the nimbus is latin for “rain.” These types of cumulus clouds grow very very tall in the atmosphere, and they mean business. They are often associated with developing showers and thunderstorms and occasionally could be severe in nature. These clouds can grow very tall in our atmosphere, sometimes reaching 50,000-60,000 feet up.
